Feet to Metre Converter

One foot is exactly 0.3048 metres, so a length in feet is converted to metres by multiplying by 0.3048.

Building plans, plot sizes and furniture dimensions in India are quoted in feet as often as in metres, and the two rarely appear on the same drawing. This converter moves between them exactly: the international foot has been defined as precisely 0.3048 metres since 1959, so nothing here is an approximation.

metres = feet × 0.3048
feet   = metres ÷ 0.3048

The factor is exact by definition, not rounded, so converting there and back returns the number you started with.

A room wall measured at 12 feet 6 inches — that is 12.5 feet.

12.5 feet is 3.81 metres exactly.

• Enter inches as a fraction of a foot: 6 inches is 0.5, 9 inches is 0.75.
• The survey foot, used in some old US land records, is very slightly different. This converter uses the international foot, which is what building work uses.
